Cantus Novus, a semi-professional vocal chamber ensemble based in Bloomington, Illinois, was founded in 2001 to provide outstanding performance opportunities for distinguished community vocalists in Central Illinois.

The group has developed a notable reputation in the performance of a varied repertoire of sacred and secular works. The ensemble's ranks include several music educators as well as those with just a personal passion for music.

Cantus Novus is honored to be directed by Dr. Tim Fredstrom, professor of choral music at Illinois State University where he teaches choral methods, conducting, and music education courses and directs Men's Glee.

In addition to his ISU and Cantus Novus duties, he is also assistant conductor of the Peoria Bach Festival chorus.

Dr. Fredstrom holds degrees in vocal performance from Nebraska Wesleyan University and the University of Nebraska and a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from the University of Nebraska
